About Custom Deli Paper

Deli paper is a lightweight sheet used to wrap, separate, and present food at the counter. It is thinner and more flexible than greaseproof stock, which is what makes it good at wrapping — it folds and creases around a sandwich or a sub without springing back, and it interleaves cleanly when stacked.

It does two different jobs depending on how it is used. As a wrap, it holds a sandwich or a sub together for handoff. As an interleaving sheet, it separates stacked items — sandwich halves, pastries, cheese slices — so they lift apart cleanly instead of sticking. Both uses consume sheets continuously through a service, which is what makes the branding math work: the same printed sheet reaches a customer on order after order for a fraction of a cent.

Format follows the use. Interleaved sheets are stacked to pull one at a time, which suits a wrapping station. Cut sheets are loose-stacked at a fixed size for general counter use. Rolls are continuous for high-volume wrapping. Pre-cut liners are sized to a tray or a basket so they drop in without trimming.

Choosing Between Deli Paper and Greaseproof

These two stocks are often confused, and the difference matters. Deli paper is a lighter, more flexible sheet built for wrapping and interleaving — it creases well and separates cleanly. Greaseproof paper is denser and built to resist oil, which is what you want when fried or rich food sits directly on the sheet and would otherwise wick grease through onto the surface beneath.

If you are wrapping a sandwich for handoff, deli paper is the right stock. If you are lining a basket under fried food, greaseproof is the right stock. Some operations use both — a greaseproof liner in the basket and deli paper around the sandwich. Tell us what you are serving and we will confirm which stock suits it.

Why Delis Print Their Paper

A wrapped sandwich is held by the customer for the length of a lunch. The paper is in their hands while they eat, which is a longer and more intimate exposure than almost any other packaging format — and it is seen at close range rather than at a distance.

There is a display case angle as well. In a counter where sandwiches and pastries are merchandised, a printed sheet under each item ties a whole case together visually, so a deli display reads as a coordinated brand instead of a collection of separate products.

Minimum order quantity depends on the sheet format, the size, and the print setup your artwork requires, and is confirmed with your quote. Deli paper generally runs in larger quantities than boxed packaging because the print setup amortizes across the run.
